Sudha Mathew

What was your intent in signing up for the BWW? Would you say your intent was met?
I came to improve my writing skills for my blog and website content. But I got a whole lot more value than I expected. I learnt that I needed to use “my voice” more in my writing. I wrote two fictional pieces for the first time ever. And this is the part that I love – I reconnected with my love of literature and classics.

What were your key take-aways from the workshop? Which of the sessions/discussions/topics covered did you find most beneficial to you?
The biggest take aways that I had was to let myself go while writing instead of editing as I wrote and to “show” rather than “tell”.

Are there any other topics/methods you would like incorporated in the workshop?
Personally, I would have liked a practical session on press releases, submission letters and pitches to publications.

How would you rate your Facilitators? Please give specific feedback to both.
Rheea Mukherjee –Cool headed, precise and clear-cut with feedback. I think the two-week gap hampered a full interaction because I’m finding it hard to come up with anything else.

Bhumika Anand – Very giving mentor and teacher, looks at the pieces in great detail and the insights are spot on. I thought my punctuation was good but Bhumika made me realise that there is a higher bar for that too;-) And the best thing is the belief she has in each one of us, which makes all the feedback, both good and bad so palatable.

One unsolicited feedback for Bhumika, this comes more from my professional side rather than my writer side. Drama is entertaining for the class and good for your soul since you’re inclined towards it but there is a huge possibility of it coming back to bite you. And that’s very hard to digest in your own business when it happens. (I hope that wasn’t too preachy but it’s heartfelt.)

Would you recommend the workshop to others? How would you rate the BWW, on a scale of 1-10, where 10 is the highest?
Yes I would recommend BWW. 8 because nobody is perfect ;-)

Any other feedback/suggestions for improvement/criticism…
I’d love to attend an advanced writing course six months from now.
