Do you have a song you always wanted to translate into English? Or a snippet of some really snappy dialogue from a play or a movie?
Perhaps you want to translate a sublime poem from your mother tongue to English; or introduce English readers to the essays of a critic who writes only in a regional language? Have you dreamt of translating your favourite novel in your mother tongue to English?

Our five-week workshop in translation will enable you to exploit your bi/multilingual skills and bring the literature of your language to the rest of the world.

In this workshop, we will discuss the linguistic, cultural, and ethical issues that confront a translator and evolve strategies to resolve them through exercises in translation.  

Who is it targeted at?
This course is for writers who are past graduates of the BWW Classic course who
want to understand the nuances of translation and practice translation.
Note: If you are new to writing and don't have a particular interest in any genre, style,
or form as yet, we recommend you try the BWW: Classic.
Should you apply for the BWW Translation course and haven't done the BWW Classic, your application will be considered for the BWW Classic by default.

What is expected from the participants?
An open mind to learn and experiment with translation techniques focused toward producing a work (or works) of fiction, creative non-fiction, or poetry from a regional language to English.
It is recommended that participants identify a project (Pieces chosen for translation into English (or vice versa) can be from short fiction, extracts from novels, non-fiction pieces, or even poetry.   
The willingness to share your work with others while welcoming and providing constructive feedback.  

What are the takeaways for the participants?
Participants will come away from the workshops with confidence in their ability to translate, trusting their skills and instincts, and understanding how to kickstart their translation projects.

What is the methodology?
Discussions about specific writing elements in relation to translation as exemplified by proven published works combined with in-class and take-home writing assignments.
Each session will focus on one specific component: 
We will not take more than eight students in a class to maintain an intimate set-up that will scale up your learning.
We have partnered with Wet Ink to provide you access to our online organic community at BWW, which will continue to inspire your writing long after the course is over. 
We also have regular meet-ups with published authors, agents, and publishers for the community that you can access if you are in Bangalore.

This is a five weeks long offline/online workshop.
